Check the Weather Privacy Policy

Effective October 19, 2026

In short

Who we are

Check the Weather is made by Cross Forward, Inc. (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Check the Weather app for iPhone and iPad. If you have questions about it, or want to ask about any information described here, email us at support@checktheweather.app.

Information we don't collect

The app does not ask you to create an account, and it does not collect your name, email address, contacts, photos or health information. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it to build profiles of you.

Your location

If you allow it, the app uses your device's location while you are using the app, to show the weather where you are. You can decline, or change this at any time in your device's Settings. Without it, the app still works for places you search for and save.

Your location is used only to fetch weather information, as described in the next section. We do not store a history of your locations, and your location is never sent to us.

Services the app uses

To show the weather, the app requests information from the services below. Each request comes from your device directly, and like any internet request it carries your device's IP address and standard technical details such as the app's version and your device's operating system. Each provider handles that information under its own privacy policy.

Weather forecasts

For current conditions and hourly and daily forecasts, the app sends the latitude and longitude of the place you're looking at (and, to Foreca, its altitude) to the weather provider chosen in Settings:

For your current location this is where your device is; for a saved place it is that place. Forecasts are part of the subscription, so without one the app sends no location to these providers. The Lock Screen widgets always get their forecast from Foreca, whichever source you choose.

Radar and the next hour's rain

Radar images and the next hour's rain come from our own radar service, delivered through Bunny.net, a content delivery network. The radar is divided into large map squares, and the app downloads the squares covering the area on screen and the area around the place you're looking at. These requests reveal a general area, not your exact location. Our delivery provider may keep standard request logs (IP address, time and file requested) for a limited period; we use them only to keep the service running and do not combine them with any other information.

Weather warnings and hurricane tracks

Severe weather warnings and hurricane tracks also come from our radar service. Warnings are downloaded for a large map square around the place you're looking at, and checked against that place on your device, so the request reveals only a general area. The hurricane feed is the same for everyone, so requesting it sends no location at all.

Maps, place names and search

The map is provided by Apple Maps, which receives the areas of the map you view. When you search for a place, what you type is sent to Apple to suggest matching places, and the app asks Apple for the names of places it shows, such as the town you're in.

Information stored on your device

The app keeps the following on your device only: your saved places and their names, your settings, recently fetched forecasts (so the app can show the weather as soon as it opens), and a count of the requests the app has made to each service. Saved places are shared with the app's widgets through storage on your device. None of this is sent to us. Deleting the app deletes it.

Anonymous usage statistics

The app sends us anonymous counts of how often its features are used, such as opening the subscription screen or changing the weather source, along with the app's version and whether Premium is active. Now and then it also sends the device model, iOS version, language, text size and light or dark appearance. These carry no identifier, no location and nothing else that could link them to you.

Emails to support

If you email us from Get Help in the app, the message includes your app version, device model, iOS version, your plan, weather source and Next Hour setting, time zone and language, to help us look into problems. It doesn't include your location, and you can edit the message before sending it.

Subscriptions

Check the Weather is free to download, and radar and the next hour's rain are free to use. The rest of the forecast is available by subscription, purchased through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never receive your name, email address or payment details. The app asks Apple whether a subscription is active, using information Apple provides about the purchase (such as the plan and its renewal date), in order to unlock the forecast. To manage or cancel a subscription, go to your Apple Account's subscriptions in Settings.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because we do not hold personal information about you, there is usually nothing for us to provide, correct or delete. You can remove everything the app stores by deleting it. If you have a question or request, email support@checktheweather.app.

Business transfers

If Cross Forward, Inc. or substantially all of its assets were acquired, or in the unlikely event that it went out of business or entered bankruptcy, any information we hold would be among the assets transferred to the acquirer, who could continue to use it as described in this policy.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example when the app adds a feature or a provider. We will change the effective date above, and, for a significant change, say so in the app or in its release notes. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
